Soyeon – Marketing Artist

A fireside chat with Soyeon Jung – Marketing Artist

Q: What did you do before joining Dodreams?
A: Most recently I worked on concept art and UI design for game projects at both Supercell and Next Games. Before that I worked as a UI/UX Designer for a Finnish startup, which developed social AR gamification apps.

Q: What do you do at Dodreams?
A: As a marketing artist, I design and create art for a variety of marketing purposes, like social media, app store optimization, etc. In addition I work a lot on in-game communication for our games, in the form of UI/UX design.

Q: When you’re not busy crafting amazing player experiences at work, what do you like to do?
A: After I moved to Finland, I got really into outdoor activities such as camping, sauna (naturally) with ice water swimming, golf, ice skating and snowboarding.

Q: What’s the coolest project you’ve worked on?
A: That’s a really hard question, as I’ve been fortunate to work on so many cool things. What stands out was my first job in the industry – working on gamified AR apps – just because of it being such an interesting new challenge to me. I really enjoyed learning UI/UX design in addition to creating art. Working on the Blade Runner franchise at Next Games was also quite special, as I’m a huge fan of the movies!

Q: What kind of games do you want to make in the future?
A: I want to make games that are easily approachable and super fun. Games that anyone can enjoy, regardless of how much “gaming” experience you have.

Martin – Community Specialist

A fireside chat with Martin Fodor – Community Specialist

Q: What do you do at Dodreams?
A: As our Community Specialist I support and grow our enthusiastic community of players. My job also includes planning in-game events, as well as creating marketing content together with my colleagues in our live-ops team.

Q: What do you enjoy most about your work?
A: Interacting with our players and hearing how they feel about our content, an most importantly, iterating on content based on that feedback. Companies tend to overlook the opinions and feelings of their core audience when developing content, however we see it as a huge part of building a franchise. By gathering this player feedback, and making sure it finds its way to our developers, I see myself as a link between the dev team and the community.

Q: What’s the coolest project you’ve worked on?
A: The coolest project so far is definitely ”Skeletor’s Revenge” – our most recent brand collaboration in Drive Ahead!. Creating content based on such an incredible franchise, with an added Drive Ahead! spin, was simply amazing.

Q: What’s it like working at Dodreams?
A: A ton of laughs and interesting discussion – both while working and during breaks. Overall the balance between working hard and playing hard feels really good. Oh, and did I mention our studio movie nights?

Q: What kind of games do you want to make in the future?
A: Seeing the enthusiasm of our community, I would definitely want to work on games that leverage this aspect in new innovative ways. Huge explosions and battles of epic proportions are also a plus.

Q: Which is your favorite Drive Ahead! vehicle and why?
A: The Dragon Monster! It’s a dragon-themed monster truck that rampages through the arena! Need I say more?

A fireside chat with Jari Räisänen – Technical Director

Q: What do you do at Dodreams?

Q: What’s the coolest project you’ve worked on?
A: I’ve worked on several cool projects, but Drive Ahead! has to be the coolest one. I’ve been a part of that journey from day one, and four years later it’s still getting more and more interesting every day.

Q: What’s it like working at Dodreams?
A: We have small teams with lots of freedom and responsibility, so the work is always both challenging and rewarding.

Anne – Office Manager

A fireside chat with Anne Tulonen-Ruikka – Office Manager

Q: What did you do before joining Dodreams?
A: I worked at Rovio Entertainment – creators of Angry Birds – for seven years.

Q: What do you do at Dodreams?
A: I’m the Office Manager, so I make sure our day to day practicalities run smoothly, so that everyone is able to focus 100% on their work, without unnecessary distractions. As a part of our management team, I’m also responsible for the company culture work, and employee matters, such as on-boarding our new joiners. When starting at Dodreams, I’m probably the first person you’ll see!

Q: What’s the coolest project you’ve worked on?
A: Creating our new company office – the Dreamland. It was a lot of fun to be a part of the design team, and really get to think about what the ideal office setup for our culture would look like. I also got to do a lot of shopping, which is always nice!

Q: What kind of games do you want to make in the future?
A: Games that have the entire office playing, laughing, yelling, swearing, etc. Four years in and we still play Drive Ahead! for fun every single day! You know you’re onto something special when that happens.

Q: What has been the most memorable moment for you at Dodreams?
A: The first day at our new office when people came to work, and there were so many happy faces around me. Getting to that point involved absurdly tight schedules, countless planning meetings, fire extinguishing, shopping, measuring, screwdriver wielding.. you get the point. Unforgettable.

Q: Which is your favorite Drive Ahead! vehicle and why?
A: The Ambulance. No idea why. We just connect.

Sauli – Creative Director

A fireside chat with Sauli Pöysä – Creative Director

Q: What do you do at Dodreams?
A: During my time at Dodreams I’ve actually worked on most aspects of game development, apart from coding. Today I focus on game design and art direction.

Q: When you’re not busy crafting amazing player experiences at work, what do you like to do?
A: I spend a lot of my free time drawing and painting. I also play the Nintendo fighter game “Super Smash Bros. Melee” at a decent level, so I travel to tournaments every so often. To counterbalance these “passive” activities I also try to hit the gym three times a week.

Q: What’s it like working at Dodreams?
A: Working with all these talented people is a blast! Our products are incredibly motivating to work on, and it feels like there are endless opportunities for us to keep improving them. It certainly gets hectic at times, but the feeling of shipping features and content you’ve had a part in designing – to millions of users nonetheless – is nothing short of extraordinary. We also actively work on improving ourselves as professionals, and dedicate a couple of days every month to setting aside our “normal” tasks for a moment, and doing just that.

Q: What kind of games do you want to make in the future?
A: I want people to have fun and connect through the games I make. Bringing that feeling of togetherness that I experienced playing games with my friends as a kid, to anything I work on, is really important to me.

Q: What has been the most memorable moment for you at Dodreams?
A: Early development and launch of Drive Ahead!. I remember how I used to think that it’s the best game I’ve ever worked on (still think so lol) and being super excited just thinking about how well it could do. Safe to say the game’s success ended up surpassing all my expectations. And we’re not stopping here – the game still has so much untapped potential!

Q: Which is your favorite Drive Ahead! vehicle and why?
A: I can give you my top three. Motocross Bike, Doombot and Rocket Fist. All of them for the same reason: crazy fun gameplay and lots of unexpected moments – especially so in 2P mode!
